VIVAnews – The government will accelerate the infrastructure development to increase the manufacturing industry growth that has been slowing down in the third quarter of 2009. Industry Minister M.S. Hidayat said that the infrastructure development is the only way to boost the industry’s growth.
“If the supporting [factors] such as infrastructure, gas supply, and energy can be maintained, [the manufacturing industry] surely performs well,” Hidayat said in Jakarta on Tuesday, Nov. 3. He admitted that the infrastructure development has yet to be optimal.
“We will accelerate [the development], by revising the law for example. But this is not for 2009. We will see in 2010, due to the fact that we got hit by the [global economic] crisis in 2009,” he added.
The priority on infrastructure development acceleration is listed in the 100-day-program of the Indonesia United Cabinet II.
The slowing growth of large and medium-sized processing industry in the third quarter could refer to the relatively small growth which is only 0.02 percent. It showed that the economic condition in the same quarter this year quite equals 2008.
“The condition indicated that market absorption toward industrial products in this quarter remains stagnant,” Head of the Central Statistics Agency Rusman Heriawan said.
