VIVAnews – UK-based electricity company International Power Plc. is targeting the independent power producer (IPP) of the steam-based power plant in Central Java which has 2 x 1,000 megawatt in capacity.
“[International Power] is interested in becoming an investor in the Central Java steam-based power plant,” said Director General of Electricity and Energy Utilization J. Purwono in Jakarta on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
He explained that the International Power is also targeting several electricity projects of renewable energy source, which are included in the second phase of the 10,000 megawatt acceleration project. “Their mission is similar to Indonesia’s [which is] to develop a power plant on clean-energy basis,” he added.
Purwono said that there is another company that is interested into the power project, other than the International Power, which is Rolls Royce. The company is eyeing the power plant construction designer position. “The Rolls Royce engine’s efficiency has been proven in the gas- and steam-based power plant in Tanjung Batu, Kalimantan,” he said.
The combined cycle engine in Tanjung Batu is more efficient by 40 percent, higher than the normal efficiency of other gas- and steam-power plant, which averagely reaches only 35 – 38 percent.
