VIVAnews - PT United Tractors Tbk (UNTR), PT Adaro Energy Tbk (ADRO) and Komatsu Ltd is drawing a plan to produce biodiesel fuel (BDF) in March 2010. In order to pave the way for the plan, the three companies have signed the project agreement.

The soon-to-be produced BDF will be made of jatropha plants and feedstock plants.

United Tractors Corporate Secretary Sara K Loebis explained that the collaboration would be carried out to reach to a sustainable eco-friendly mining operation at the concession mining area of Adaro’s subsidiary, PT Adaro Indonesia.

Loebis also said the project had the potential of reducing 20 thousand tons of C02 emission or approximately equal to 10 percent CO2 emission produced in Komatsu’s factory in Japan.

It is assumed that if 20 percent of diesel fuel for 100 Komatsu’s dump trucks is replaced by BDF, it would take eight thousand tons of BDF every year.

“We are expecting to be able to operate 100 units of Komatsu’s dump truck by 2012,” Loebis says in a press release received by VIVAnews in Jakarta on Thursday, November 5.

In the project, Komatsu will be operating BDF-fueled Komatsu’s dump trucks with the capacity up to 90 tons. The BDF project would take place at Adaro’s coal mining in Kalimantan.

“For the collaboration, United Tractors will provide services and product support for the BDF-fueled Komatsu’s trucks,” Loebis says.

United Tractors is the distributor of Komatsu heavy machinery in Indonesia.

Furthermore, Adaro would plant jatropha and feedstock plants in the reclamation area.

In the area, BDF will be produced out of jatropha fruits or seeds to be used by Komatsu’s dump trucks which will be operating at Adaro’s coal mining area.

Komatsu will also establish a BDF factory with the production capacity of 1-2 tons per day. A laboratory to insure the quality of BDF produced at Adaro’s coal mining will also be built.

“Komatsu will also issue an operation guarantee for the trucks that will be using that particular fuel, “Loebis said.

The project agreement was signed by United Tractors President Director Djoko Pranoto, Komatsu Ltd President Director and CEO Kunio Noji and Adaro Energy President Director Garibaldi Thohir.
