VIVAnews - A hearing held last night by the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission III on Legal Affairs, which presented the Chief Indonesian Police, as a response over the matter involving the Indonesian anti-graft commission (KPK) and the Indonesian Police, ended in criticism. DPR is seen as not exercising its function well regarding the alleged authority misuse case which takes in two non-active KPK heads Bibit Samad Riyanto and Chandra M Hamzah.

"The hearing was manipulated. It was political," said Indonesian Human Rights Monitor (Imparsial) Director Rusdi Marpaung on Friday, Nov 6.

Rusdi said the nation is under an emergency status concerning justice. The law upholding system is entering a critical moment.

As people's representatives, said Rusdi, House members should be critical and evaluative over the Chief of Indonesian Police. House must also check out on the Indonesian Police which is for the time being considered having poor record in legal upholding system.

"The hearing last night was not intended at settling the emergency status. There was indeed political conspiracy. House was likely supporting the Chief of Indonesian Police," he said.

Last night, Chief of Indonesian Police General Bambang Hendarso Danuri and nonactive Chief of Indonesian Police Crime and Investigation Division Comm. Gen. Susno Duadji replied Commission III's invitation for a hearing.

Danuri said he and his staff are ready to be removed from the office if they are proven manipulating the KPK case.
