VIVAnews - Head of National Awakening Party (PKB) Syuro Council, Abdurrahman Wahid, called for his supporters to boycott the 2009 elections. The former President of Indonesia, who is familiarly called Gus Dur, has appealed 420 units existing in PKB not to participate in the next elections.

"What is the big deal about boycotting the elections?" said Gus Dur at the Nadhlatul Ulama Cleric Assembly (PBNU) office on Jalan Salemba Raya, Jakarta, Nov 18.

Gus Dur was undaunted by legal threats for instigating people to boycott the elections. In fact, Gus Dur seemed to challenge the government and the authority to arrest him. "Let them arrest me. Why think twice about it? Give it a try if they want to see Indonesia blow up," Gus Dur said jokingly.

Gus Dur mainly aimed his call at Regional Board, Regency Board and all entities under those boards in Indonesia. The boycott, said Gus Dur, can be by not listing the legislative candidates to local Elections Commission, not running campaigns for anyone and deliberately staying away from registration done by the local KPU.
