VIVAnews – US entrepreneurs joining in the US Chamber of Commerce are eyeing several infrastructure projects, especially on toll roads and railways in Indonesia, as stated by Vice President Boediono who met the US Ambassador to Indonesia Cameron Hume. The meeting was also attended by Chief of the US Chamber of Commerce Robert S. Milligan and Chairman of American Business Council James Castle.

Meanwhile, Indonesia was represented by Indonesian Chamber of Commerce entrepreneurs and members James Riady and Peter F. Gonta.

“Infrastructure development is very important. [Indonesia] can collaborate with the US,” said Milligan in Jakarta on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

Milligan said that Indonesia has opened a wide opportunity for investors from the public and private companies to invest in infrastructure sector.

Milligan added that Indonesia needs foreign investment to increase the economic growth.

He explained that Indonesia was not seen as an interesting country to invest prior to 1997.

“However, we are starting to think about investing in Indonesia after seeing the country has successfully managed to go through the crisis in the last ten years,” he said.

Meanwhile, Cameron Hume explained that the US is discussing about the prospect of foreign investment and the possibility to develop a bilateral cooperation with Indonesia.

“We as the delegations [of the US] see a positive sentiment in Indonesia,” he said.
