8,256 Houses Destroyed after Bima Quake

The worst damage occurred in Bima municipality and regency.

VIVAnews – There are at least 8,256 damaged houses caused by the 6.7 on the Richter Scale earthquake that shocked Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, on last Monday.

The worst damage occurred in Bima municipality and regency, ruining 4,066 building: 1,250 homes are severely damaged; 932 are of medium damage; and 1,884 houses are under minor damage.

Devastated public facilities located in the regency, such as mosques, school buildings, community health centers and bridges, reached 98 units.

Meanwhile, the crushed buildings in Bima municipality reached 4,190 units: 491 houses are severely damaged; 679 homes are of medium damage; and 3,020 home are under minor damage. The shattered public facilities reached 77 units, which include bridges and drainage facilities.

The local administration has disbursed Rp 500 million, which has been handed in to the Bima municipality and regency related to the losses.

West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Secretary Abdul Malik said that the fund disbursement is prioritized at the rehabilitation of the damaged public facilities, especially school buildings.

A number of school students are forced to study in emergency tents set up by the local administration due to ruined schools.
