VIVAnews - As many as 11 batik fabrics belonging to the mother of US President Barack Obama, Stanley Ann Dunham (known by Ann Soetoro), will be displayed at a shopping mall in Jakarta, Grand Indonesia.
"The exhibition is made possible to welcome Mr Obama, who had once lived in the country. This is a symbol of US partnership with Indonesia as well as Mr Obama's appreciation toward [Indonesian culture]," said Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu on Monday, Nov 16.
Apart from showing off Dunham's batik collection on November 22, the event will also display the collection of Indonesian first lady Ani Yudhoyono and legendary batik painter from Solo, Central Java, Go Tik Swan.
The exhibition will be inaugurated by Ani Yudhoyono.
"The display tells a story behind batik as personal heritage," said Pangestu.
