VIVAnews - The International Energy Agency (IEA) predicted that energy demand in ten ASEAN countries is predicted to grow 76 percent between 2007 and 2030.

According to IEA report entitled 2009 World Energy Outlook, ASEAN countries recorded faster energy growth than other countries worldwide. Overall, world's demand on energy will hike 40 percent or oil-equaled 16.8 billion tons between 2009 and 2030.

Fossil-based fuel mainly oil and gas in mixed energy still dominates the demand with 3/4 increase in non-OECD countries, especially China and India by 90 percent.

In addition to the basic scenarios, IEA also prepares scenario-450 which recommends measures on climate change mitigation.

In line with scenario-450, the peak in fossil-based fuel is restricted by the year 2020.

Energy efficiency is the top contributor to meet the scenario. It contributes to more than half of total emission reduction until 2030.

Based on the scenario, electricity production from renewable energy will reach 37 percent, nuclear 18 percent, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) five percent in 2030.
