VIVAnews - The Australian government gave out Rp 728 million for the development of classrooms at an Islamic boarding school in Tanjungpayang sub district, Lahat regency, South Sumatra.
“In the purpose of supporting education in Lahat, especially in Tanjungpayang sub district, the Australian government assisted in funding the building of a school belonging to the Religious Affairs Department,“ Lawangagung Public Islamic School Principle, Hairullah Zazili said in Lahat on Sunday, November 22.
He also said the financial assistance from Australia would be used in the development of a school under the supervision of Lahat regency’s Religious Affairs Department. However, instead of cash, the aid would be given in the form of a Rp 728 million school building which is ready to be occupied.
“The aid was provided based on the cooperation between the Australian and the Indonesian government through the Religious Affairs Department. Tanjungpayang sub district was later picked as the location of the development,” Zazili said as reported by tvOne.
He went on by saying that the support would be extended in the form of facilities such as three classrooms, an office room, a library and restrooms.
“The Australian government was very focused on supporting the improvement of the quality of human resources,” Zazili said.
The financial aid will also be used to upgrade the school’s facilities and equipments.
“The school is expected to accommodate 120 students, starting from the first grade to third grade. We’re hoping the education in our area could continue to develop and the quality of human resources could also improve,” he said.
Lahat Religious Affairs Department’s Head of Education Division, Rahman Taufiq said Tanjungpayang Islamic School has been sharing a building with Lawangagung Public School because they have not been provided with their own building.
“But, with the financial assistance from Australia, Tanjungpayang Islamic School would get its own building which is expected to be completed in December,” Taufiq said.
