VIVAnews – An officer of the Brigadier Police named Dedy was found dead with several stab wounds on his body on Saturday night at Kaligi Hotel in Timika, Papua. The police officer was allegedly beaten and murdered by an unknown group of people whose identity is still under investigation.

Chief of Papua Police Brigadier General Bekto Suprapto confirmed the incident and he explained that there is an ongoing investigation on the crime scene.

The victim’s body has been taken to the Timika general hospital. “The case is under investigation [and] the motive will be clear once the suspects have been detained,” he said.

The chief has yet to confirm whether the victim was allegedly beaten and killed by several men from the Indonesian Army. “We are still collecting data and evidences to reveal the suspects. We cannot identify the suspects yet,” he added.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson from 17 Cendrawasih regional military command Lieutenant Colonel Susilo said that it was still unclear whether the suspects were officers from the army. “There is a murder case, but the suspects’ [identities] are still being investigated,” he said.

Susilo stated that if the investigation reveals evidences of army officers’ involvement, the army will take action and process the case based on the law.

However, he added that the rumor should not be exaggerated and the investigation process should be continued by the police.
