VIVAnews – The Indonesian and Japanese government are discussing the development of the gas mega projects at Masela and Senoro blocks. Both governments are trying to speed up the completion of the projects.

“We are trying to get confirmation of the project,” said Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Zahedy Saleh in Jakarta on Monday, Nov. 23.

Saleh said that the large gas field’s production will in general be allocated for export and domestic needs. Meanwhile, the small gas field will fulfill the domestic necessity. However, the Department is looking into a chance of whether or not it will be economical to sell the produced gas from Senoro block in domestic market.

The government is waiting for a result from the Masela block on the LNG refinery construction plan that the independent consultant conducted about whether the refinery will be constructed over land or on water.

Director General of Energy and Environment Policy at Japan's Ministry for the Economy, Trade and Industry Takayuki Ueda explained that the continuity of Masela and Senoro projects is important for both countries. Therefore, the projects are expected to be tackled on time.

“These are promising projects. Several companies will join in these projects,” Ueda added.
