VIVAnews - Four out of 12 Greenpeace activists from Brazil, Belgium, the United States, Philippines, Germany and Indonesia were taken in by police and security officers as they were trying to stop block the crane belonging to paper company PT Indah Kiat Pulp and Paper from working.

"Four activists have been secured by the police and the company's security officers. But other activists are still protesting by hanging down their bodies on the crane," spokesperson of Greenpeace Southeast Asia, Bustar Maitar, told VIVAnews on Wednesday, Nov 25.

Twelve activists blocked the crane on the port in an effort to stop pulp export. There was a banner read "Deforestation: You Can Stop This"

They insisted world's leaders including Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono have strong leadership in anticipating climate change as well as making available global fund for forest protection in order to stop tropical forest destruction.

"Deforestation is one of the roots in climate crisis. We are trying to stop exports of one of the largest pulp companies in the world responsible for deforestation. It is to inform elect world's leaders that they are able to, and have the obligation to, take us away from the danger of climate change," Campaign Director of Greenpeace Southeast Asia Shailendra Yashwant said.

The action was set out as a protest against US President Barack Obama who is said as downgrading the Copenhagen Climate Agreement saying that it was only a political statement.
