VIVAnews – The Asian Development Bank (ADB) predicts that the energy efficiency project in Indonesia will need investment reaching US$4 billion.
“The US$4 billion can become a credit market potential altogether for the domestic and foreign banking,” said ADB director for water and energy division for Southeast Asia Anthony Jude in Jakarta on Thursday, Nov. 26.
“The energy sector in Indonesia is a new opportunity for a large investment which has yet to be developed and still awaits for the domestic and international banks’ and industries’ participation,” said Jude.
Jude explained that the US$4 billion investment value is a prediction from ADB on investment necessity to retrofit and repair commercial building consumers and industry’s facilities for energy saving.
ADB’s investment last year for eco-friendly energy development reached almost up to US$1.7 billion, higher US$700 million compared to the previous target which only reached US$1 billion.
Based on the ADB energy policy approved by the ADB’s directors board in 2009, ADB doubled the investment target for eco-friendly energy development, reaching US$2 billion annually starting from 2013.
