VIVAnews - Despite its status as a capital city, Jakarta has not been really enjoyable to tourists. Thus, efforts to make Jakarta comfortable to local and foreign visitors are required.

Jakarta does garner a lot of tourism potentials. Unfortunately, not every potential has been dug out maximally. In addition, Jakarta has been filled with conflicts over the past months.

Based on the disclosed facts, Jakarta Tourism and Cultural Agency held a workshop on Spatial Planning for Tourism Appeal on Wednesday, November 25.

The annual event which is attended by tourism observers and relevant institutions discusses about actual topics on tourism.

Jakarta Tourism and Cultural Agency Head Arie Budhiman said if Jakarta could be designed properly, it would lead to the economic improvement of the locals. Therefore, the local government would keep working on every corner of the city to turn them into tourism centers.

“Land, sea and air tourism will also be optimized,” Budhiman said.

However, the measure requires support from every level of society.

“In order to endorse Jakarta, support from related parties such as transportation agencies is needed,” Budhiman said while continued by saying that adequate transportation facility would be able to boost numbers of visitors in Jakarta.

Based on the information on Jakarta provincial government’s official website, along 2009, there have been up to 1.064.464 foreign tourists while in previous year, there were 1.534.785 tourists.

“Based on the data, it is predicted that visits from foreign tourists would decrease. One of the causes is the bombing terror occurred a few months ago,” Budhiman said.

But, he still cannot predict the target of foreign tourists’ visits set next year because it could not be figured out until the end of the year. He is however expecting the visits to go up between five to ten percent.
