VIVAnews - One thousand and four hundred personnel have been prepared by Jakarta Disaster and Refugee Mitigation Agency (PBP) to anticipate flooding. All personnel will be on 24-hour alert at the agency’s station located at City Hall’s Pola Room, Blok G.
Jakarta Provincial Government’s Regional Secretary, who is also the Head of PBP, Muhayat, said his team would be anticipating and minimizing possible threats to Jakarta residents.
“I am reminding the members of PBP to stand-by 24 hours,” Muhayat says as quoted by Jakarta Provincial Government’s official website.
Based on the forecast by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Jakarta will be poured in by rain from November 2009 to March 2010.
PBP’s main elements consist of several related provincial working units (SKPD) like Security and Order Officers (Satpol PP), Social Affairs Agency, Health Agency, Firefighters and Disaster Mitigation Agency, Transportation Agency and Public Works Agency.
The elements will eventually be supported by personnel coming from villages, sub districts and mayors of each city. “Mitigation agency officers and crisis centers will team up to supervise the capital city,“ Muhayat said.
In addition, Jakarta Social Affairs Agency has also prepared 77 soup kitchens that will be set up in five areas of Jakarta. Six hundred and fifty Disaster Response Team members (Tagana) have also been prepared to help evacuate victims.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Health Agency has established 151 medical stations in five town areas. The stations will be operating 24 hours with the help of a doctor and three nurses and will be providing medical supplies.
Muhayat expects the inter-sector coordination will be able to make flood control efforts in Jakarta more solid.
