VIVAnews – Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Saleh said that the fulfilled coal procurement contract for the 10,000 megawatt power plant has reached 27 million tons per year out of the total necessity of 30 million tons per year.
“The 27 million tons [of coal contract] is for the low calorie coal,” said Saleh in Banten on Thursday, Dec. 10.
Saleh said that the government together with the state power company PLN is researching the coal location to supply the 10,000 megawatt power plant necessity. The research mainly is targeted to find coal and procurement contract to maintain a safe supply.
He explained that the government is taking a policy to reduce the fuel usage from 50 percent to 20 percent. Meanwhile, coal usage will be increased from 15 percent to 30 percent and geothermal to be 7 percent.
“Indonesia will still use coal based on the small emission impact consideration. Coal has only 0.5 percent emission,” he added.
Another consideration is that the country’s coal reserve will still be available for the next 150 years, longer than fuel which will only be available for the next 23 years and 63 years for gas.
