VIVAnews – The discussion on Indonesian migrant workers between Indonesia and Malaysia has been concluded by signing a memorandum of understanding in early 2010, as explained by the Manpower and Transmigration Minister Muhaimin Iskandar in Jakarta on Friday, Dec. 11.
“After the [MoU] signing with Malaysia, we will open the channel that has been suspended so we can send Indonesian migrant workers again,” Iskandar said.
The Minister explained that the discussion resulted three points. First, the passport will be held by the workers, not the employees. Second, the workers receive one day-off in a week. “The third agreement includes partnership transformation on violation supervision by the Malaysian police and immigration with the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia,” he said.
Iskandar added that the discussion is concluded and taken to the Malaysian Parliament to be socialized. He expected that the Parliament would welcome these results. “Hopefully the Malaysian Parliament welcomes [the results] and it seems that they do,” he said.
