VIVAnews - An incident occurred at the Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar involving A Boeing 737-300 belonging to Merpati Airlines due to a flat tire on Monday, Dec 21.
Merpati Airlines of Makassar Representative Head Donny Rurut said that the accident took place on the runway during a landing process.
"The incident happened at around 01.50 am local time last night. It was the front tire that got flat," Donny told VIVAnews.
He said the Makassar sky was dark as heavy rain poured down in the airport. However, he could not conclude whether or not the rains caused the incident because the landing went normal.
"It was cats and dogs out there. Our pilot felt that the front tire was suddenly in deviation. Our pilot tried to maintain control. Thank God nothing bad happened," he said.
The airplane carried 100 passengers and six crews. All passengers heading toward Jayapura, Papua, were safe.
The incident disturbed the airport last night. "Luckily, the traffic was not too full," he said.
