VIVAnews - Due to the shooting incident against two Indonesian citizens in Wutung Muara Tami, Jayapura last Saturday, supervisions in the frontier area between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea (PNG) have been increased. For once, the area was even closed to anticipate another shooting.

The police and the Indonesian Military (TNI) have been taking turns in patrolling the area.

“After the shooting occurred, the borderline gate was immediately closed to avoid following actions and hamper the suspect’s movements,” Kodam 17 Cenderawasih spokesperson Let. Col. Susilo when asked for confirmation via his mobile phone on Monday, December 21.

After the gate was re-opened, numbers of local and international of passers-by both from PNG and Indonesia were back to normal. However, TNI personnel and the police who were being assigned at the frontier station were alert. “There were about 20 TNI personnel at the station who are the members of Batalyon 713,” Susilo said.

But, until now, there has not been any additional forces were sent to the area. “There haven’t been any additional personnel at all. The current number is still considered sufficient,” he said.

Susilo also said his team has teamed up with the police to search the suspects by combing the borderline. “We are coordinating with the police in the search of the suspects of shooting against two Indonesia citizens”.

Muksin Abdul and Fadly were shot right by the borderline gate while they were standing beside their cars while waiting for their friend crossing from PNG. Both victims were shot in a short distance. Muksin was shot in the neck while Fadly was shot in the back. Muksin passed away while being rushed to the nearest medical clinic.
