World Bank Eyeing Indonesia's Agriculture

The IFC is committed to hold a partnership for boosting the processing industry.

VIVAnews - The World Bank through the International Finance Corporation (IFC) may disburse fund for agricultural industry in Indonesia. The intention was conveyed by Country Director of the World Bank Indonesia Joachim during his meeting with Industry Minister MS Hidayat.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry Agus Tjahayana said the IFC is committed to hold a partnership for boosting the processing industry in agricultural sector.

The IFC is also aiming at building cement and fertilizer industries. Cement industry will be focused on eastern Indonesian region such as Papua and Maluku.

Adopting the provision from the World Bank, the IFC is restricted from channeling fund for state-owned enterprises controlling more than 50 percent of shares.

"According to the IFC, the international community sees that Indonesia is different from other countries because it survives the economic downturn," he said.
