Lawmakers Mostly Involved in Corruption: ICW

The number of defendants in corruption cases regarding lawmakers reaches 116.

VIVAnews - Indonesian anticorruption watchdog the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) recorded in 2009 that the defendants of corruption crimes were mostly lawmakers amounting to 116.

Private sector seats second with 69 defendants, official staff or chiefs with 63, and staff or former officials of the regional governments with 52 defendants.

Regarding law enforcement, the public court has been under the spotlight last year due to the numerous scandalous not-guilty verdicts passed in the court rooms. The number of the accused granted not-guilty verdicts last year reached 224.
