VIVAnews - Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) is against the idea conveyed by the Indonesian government on credit interest rate cut. BRI Managing Director Sofyan Basyir said Indonesia is different from China and other ASEAN countries.
"Indonesia is incomparable to China," said Sofyan on Tuesday, Jan 12.
Responding over the interest rate issue, which is considered too high by many, Sofyan claimed that the current rate is relevant. BRI in fact has cut its credit interest rate to 9.5 percent.
"China offers low credit interest rate? [We] should consider the current inflation rate [in the country]," Sofyan said.
Earlier, Industry Minister MS Hidayat said the government wants Bank Indonesia to encourage national banks cut credit interest rate.
"The government will propose [to Bank Indonesia] on how to encourage the real sector this year. It is doable by reducing production cost," said Hidayat.
