VIVAnews - The Indonesian government will this year likely sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the induction and protection of Indonesian migrant workers with Malaysia, Taiwan, Kuwait, Lebanon.

The first deal signing will involve Malaysia, which is figured to take place by the end of January 2010.

Acting Director General of Development and Induction of Manpower at the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, I Gusti Made Arta, said Indonesian and Malaysia have accepted the agreement.

"It is awaiting approval from the Malaysian parliamentary, which had been scheduled to have taken place before last Christmas," he said on Tuesday, Jan 12.

Meanwhile, Indonesia and Taiwan have also nodded on the final talks conducted some time earlier. In addition, the Indonesian government is looking for the end reply from the government of Kuwait over the proposed draft.

The MoU with Taiwan is focused on the increase in the protection and completion of Indonesian migrant workers' problems.

"The deal with Taiwan is fine. The country in fact applies high standards of wages, which reach around Rp 4.8 million per month," he said.

The government has also tackled the MoU draft with Lebanon.
