VIVAnews - Japan-based Toshiba Corporation is targeting to control 30 percent of television market share worldwide in the next two years.

"Toshiba will expand its production and boost sales in developing countries," said Toshiba Digital Network Company President Director Masaaki Oosumi during the LCD television launching at Cikarang, West Java, yesterday, Feb 1.

He projected that world's demand of LCD TV by 2010 will touch 1.7 million units, having the G-7 countries as the largest buyers by 60 percent.

Meanwhile, 90 percent of the company's total TV production centers in Japan and the United States.

Indonesian Industry Minister MS Hidayat said Toshiba's optimism was due because the escalating electronic production in Indonesia will go hand in hand with the increasing demand.

"People's purchasing power over electronic products rises seven percent per year," said Hidayat.

For the time being, Hidayat stressed, Toshiba Corporation is negotiating with the government so as to enable the country be the production hub for the Asean and Middle East market.

"They're planning to set a base in Jakarta for both electronic production and power station," said Hidayat.
