VIVAnews - Anak Agung Banyu Perwita, a young professor from Parahyangan Catholic University has stunned Indonesian education. His article, which was published on national paper The Jakarta Post, is allegedly a result of plagiarism.
Due to the case, the paper has retracted Banyu’s article which is entitled “RI As A New Middle Power?” on Thursday, February 4. The article was published on November 12, 2009.
The Jakarta Post assumes the article was a copy of a scientific journal in Australia written by Carl Ungerer. The paper has also issued an apology to the readers and the writers.
Parahyangan University Chancellor Cecilia Lauw said she was surprised by the news.
She told mediaparahyangan.com that she read the story on her Facebook account.
She later called Banyu and Father Tarpin, a doctor in morality to have a conversation. Banyu admitted his mistake and said he was sorry. “He’s ready to take whatever punishment I’ll give to him,” Lauw said.
She also said she was disappointed in Banyu. “But I still really care about him. He was a Deputy Chancellor for two years. However, a proper punishment must be imposed on Mr Banyu,” she said.
Banyu is actually a figure with multiple achievements. On January 12, 2008, he was inaugurated as a professor in international relations. At the inauguration, he delivered a speech called “Security Dynamics in International Relations and Its Implications To Indonesia”. He also actively writes articles for the media.
According to his Facebook account, he earned his Masters from the Lancaster University in UK and his Doctoral degree from Flinders University in Australia.
Banyu, who was born in Jakarta on February 6,1967 did his secondary studies at Pangudi Luhur elementary, junior high, and high school.
He later went to Parahyangan University to major in International Relations. He was once the Head of Parahyangan University’s International Relations Students Association and the Chairperson of International Issue Analyzing Student Council (KSMPMI).
