VIVAnews - Indonesian Minister of Information and Telecommunication, Tifatul Sembiring, and his delegation were visiting Sweden on Thursday 11 February 2010 at the invitation of Swedish Minister for Communications, Åsa Torstensson.
Torstensson expressed that she very much welcomes the cooperation between Indonesia and Sweden within the field of information and technology, and is very eager to share experience and to learn more about the recent developments in Indonesia.
"We are delighted that Indonesia is showing a great interest in the Swedish Telecom Industry as well as Swedish knowledge in important IT and Telecom related issues,” Torstensson said in a written statement to VIVAnews sent by the Swedish Embassy in Jakarta.
Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia, Ewa Polano, mentioned that the invitation was extended during a bilateral talk following the Indonesia-Sweden Telecom and IT Seminar on 15 December last year in Jakarta, where Sembiring was the keynote speaker.
"Indonesia and Sweden have developed a close relation over the past years – a relation that has been characterized by rewarding knowledge sharing as well as close business ties. It is very inspiring to see the great potential in continued dynamic and fruitful cooperation between our two countries. The visit of His Excellency Minister Sembiring is another important step forward in our relation with this very important country in Asia,” said Polano.
The two Ministers were scheduled to meet yesterday in Stockholm, at the Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications.
Today, Sembiring will deliver his keynote speech at the “Indonesia – new market, new possibilities!” seminar organized by the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.
More than 50 Swedish companies have registered to attend this event, which aims to give the participants the opportunity to meet with key people in dealing with Indonesia as well as to learn more about the business possibilities and how to seize them.
In Stockholm, Sembiring will also visit Kista Science City, Northern Europe’s – and one of the world’s – leading business districts for Information and Communication Technology, where more than 500 businesses and 20,000 employees gather, from start-up to multi-national ICT companies.
The Minister’s delegation includes the Chairman of Commission 1 of DPR, Kemal Azis Stamboel. There is a continued interest to increase the parliamentarian exchange and cooperation between Indonesia and Sweden.
Stamboel is also scheduled to meet early today with the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament, Per Westerberg. Today, Stamboel and another visiting lawmaker from Comission I, Irwan Prayitno, will be accompanying Sembiring to meet the Chairman of the Swedish Parliament Committee on Foreign Relations, Göran Lennmarker.
The Minister and delegation are also scheduled to have a visit as well as Friday prayer at the Stockholm Grand Mosque.
