VIVAnews - Indosat has just launched its first Android-based services in Indonesia. Hoping to create a remarkable sign, Indosat is presenting six Android mobile phones, which are the outcome of the collaboration with six major sole authorized agents (ATPM).

The agents and their devices are HTC with HTC Hero, Motorola with Motorola Milestone, Samsung with Samsung Galaxy Spica, LG with LG GW 620, Huawei with U8230 and Sony Ericsson with Xperia X10.

In total, Indosat has prepared 50 thousand units of Android mobile phones from the six producers.

“We’re the first provider to develop Android-based services in Indonesia in the form of packages, together with six agents and the Android Application Store,” Indosat Group Head Brand Marketing, Teguh Prasetya told VIVAnews in Jakarta on February 22.

He also said that Indosat has merged Google-owned Android App Store with Indosat Market Store. Therefore, Android Indosat subscribers will be able to use both Android and the local contents in one device.

HTC Hero handset will be sold for IDR5.25 million (normal price) and IDR4.99 million (pre-order price) while the retail price of Motorola Milestone is IDR6.25 million (normal price) and IDR5.99 million (pre-order price).

As for Samsung Galaxy Spica, the phones will be sold for IDR3.49 million (normal price) and IDR2.99 million (pre-order price). LG GW 620 will go for the price of IDR4.39 million (normal price) and IDR3.49 million (pre-order price), Huawei U8320 will be worth IDR3.79 million (normal price) and IDR2.99 million (pre-order) and Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 will cost IDR7 million (normal price) and IDR6.5 million (pre-order price).

Pre-order purchases will be available until February 28 and the phones could be picked up during Indosat Android Expo at the Mega Bazaar Exhibition at the Jakarta Convention Center from March 3 to 7, 2010.

“We’ll bind the six mobile phones to three Indosat cellular services which are Matrix, IM3 and Mentari postpaid and unlimited IM2 services with the tariff of IDR100 thousand per month (quota 1GB), “ Prasetya said.

He went on by saying that it is possible for Indosat to establish collaboration with additional agents in addition to the existing ones. “For the beginning, we certainly want to bring branded and high-quality mobile phones as the tools to create market trend. We want to offer unique experience with these phones,” he said.
