VIVAnews - The potential investment for developing geothermal energy in Indonesia within the next five years is estimated to reach US$12 billion.
"This is a huge potential," said Chairman of Indonesian Geothermal Association, Suryadharma, in Jakarta on Thursday, March 11.
According to Suryadharma, every country has different policies on the geothermal development such as subsidy granting.
He stated that the geothermal electricity in European countries has been in economic price. In Germany, the selling price of geothermal electricity is set at 20 cent euro per kilowatthours (kwh).
"Kalau di Indonesia dikenai bunga 11-15 persen," ujar dia.
"Indonesia applies 11-15 percent of rate," he said.
However, Suryadharma said, the benchmark selling price of geothermal electricity price that the government has set at US$9.7 cent per kwh is quite promising for investors.
