VIVAnews - Christians in South Jakarta are willing to adjust blood donating schedule in order to cover the lack of stock during fasting month (Ramadhan).

GKJ Nehemia Council Head Rusindo M H Tobing delivered the statement after hearing the report of the amount of national blood stock that is less than 1 million bags.

Priest Rusindo said the Christians would be glad to help the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) in addind the blood stock.

The commitment was conveyed by Rusindo during the visit of Central PMI Head Jusuf Kalla to GKJ Nehemia on Jalan Pasar Jumat on Sunday, April 10.

“We have registered the congregation as living witnesses. We usually donate blood three times a year,” Rusindo told Kalla. The congregation, he said, has been routinely donating blood since the church was first established in 1971.

“It was first conducted in 1972 in the spirit of Easter every once a year. But, due to good progress, it became three times a year in 1980,” he said.

During his visit, Kalla said PMI’s blood stock usually decreased during Ramadhan. The amount of national blood stock is also less than 1 million per year.

In response to the issue, Rusindo said the Christians would set up blood donating schedule during fasting month. “We’ll work it out in August or September”.

Today, April 19, Nehemia Church has also held a blood donating event. Until this afternoon, there have been 112 donors giving out their blood. The blood stock will be gathered by the PMI to be distributed to the hospitals in need.
