VIVAnews - The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta yesterday announced a new effort to “Go Green”!  Starting on May 1, 2010, all non-immigrant applicants to the United States must use the new online visa application form.

"This new totally "green" DS-160 form, replaces all the previous visa applications - such as the DS-156, DS-157, and DS-158," said the U.S. Embassy in its statement to VIVAnews.com.

The DS 160 saves paper.  The DS-160 is filled out online and submitted electronically to the U.S. Embassy or U.S. Consulate where the applicant will be interviewed.

"Applicants complete the DS-160 form, and then upload a 2 x 2 jpeg formatted photo and then print out only the bar-coded confirmation page.  Using only the barcode, applicants then can schedule an appointment online," the embassy says.

Applicants will continue to pay the visa application fee at Standard Chartered or certain Permata Bank branches.  Applicants must bring their passports, fee payment receipts, their printed confirmation page, and one extra photo to their appointment.

For additional information, including other documentation that may be required, applicants may visit to the U.S. Embassy's website http://jakarta.usembassy.gov
