VIVAnews - Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) will be providing legal assistance to its two students, who were arrested yesterday by the Special Anti-terrorism Detachment 88 (Densus) due to alleged involvement in a terrorist network.

The university’s Vice Chancellor III for Student Affairs Abshori said the campus would try to give legal aid to Abdul Rochman (previously referred to as Rohman) and Abdur Rochim by establishing collaboration with the UMS Legal Aids and Consultation Agency (BKBH).

“With the help from BKBH, we’ll find out the positions of both students after they were known to be arrested by Densus 88, which is why they are in need of legal assistance,” Abshori told reporters at the UMS campus on Wednesday, May 19. “After we know where they are, we’ll learn about their charges and the prosecution”.

UMS BKBH member Budi Kuswanti acknowledged the team’s intention to assist the university. As the initial step, the team would be requesting a confirmation from Densus 88 on the arrested students’ whereabouts. “We’ll figure out their locations and we’ll take it from there,” he said.

Kuswanti also said the agency would be involved in all of the legal processes according to the applied mechanism. “We’ll keep overseeing. But now, the main thing is to find out their current positions”.

Rochman and his brother Rochim were arrested by Densus 88 on Monday, May 17, 2010. Their family did not believe they were involved in terrorist acts.
