VIVAnews - The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) urged the Indonesian government to make available full insurance for the people (universal coverage insurance) as an implementation of the national social security system.
The IDI evaluated that the national security system has yet to be applied perfectly although it has been arranged in Law No.40/2004 on the National Social Security System for six years.
IDI chairman, Prijo Sidipratomo, said today, June 15, that, "to make equal health [services], we launch a system which may enable insurance-based financing."
In addition, IDI secretary general, Slamet Budiarto, said the doctors association requested that the universal coverage insurance worth Rp 38 trillion be engaged by 2013.
"In fact, the proposal still applies values lower than those attached in Law No.36 [on health issues issued in 2009] which requires the State Budget to allocate five percent of its total," said Slamet.
According to IDI head on financing, Mahlil Rubi, Indonesian Vice President Boediono has nodded agreement to the health insurance payment which will in phases be modified into the universal coverage insurance.
"The government indeed focuses on the poor. But the next phases will adapt the budget," said Mahlil Rubi.
