VIVAnews - Yayasan Peduli Timor Barat examines both material and immaterial losses they have gained reaching US$15 billion due to oil spills on the Timor Sea. Australia-based Montara PTTEP is said to have been held responsible of the incident.

"The analysis is based on direct on-site survey," said Director of Yayasan Peduli Timor Barat Ferdi Tanoni today, July 27.

15,000 fishermen and seaweed farmers living on the coasts of Rote Ndao, Kupang, Sabu Raijua, and some other regions lose their jobs in months due to lesser productions.

"The estimate is allocated to rehabilitate ruined natural resources such as coral reefs and rare fishes," he said.

The oil spills have polluted around 90,000 square kilometers. "Australia have admitted the mistake. But how come Montana did not admit anything," he said.

He also regretted that the national team for sea pollution handling that the President set up has yet to conclude anything from the negotiations with either Australia or Montara.
