VIVAnews - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) elected cleric MA Sahal Mahfudh as the next chairman and Din Syamsuddin as the deputy chairman.
The Council chose 14 heads to helm 14 sections. Meanwhile, HM Ichwan Sam is assigned MUI's secretary general.
Vice President Boediono said during the inauguration of the new leaders that the MUI national meeting was an important event due to its significance amongs the ulema.
He went on to say that the government will pay attention to the final conclusion of the meeting.
"I, representing the government, congratulate the new leaders," said Boediono.
