Indonesia High Prevalence of Hepatitis B & C

3 out of 33 provinces in Indonesia are of high prevalence of hepatitis.

VIVAnews - Indonesian Health Minister Endang Rahayu Sedyaningsih is concerned over the high prevalence of hepatitis B and C in Indonesia. It is reported that around 30 million people suffer from the diseases.

The minister, quoting a research of basic health conducted in 2007, said the national prevalence of hepatitis in the nation reaches 0.6 percent.

13 out of 33 provinces in Indonesia are of high prevalence of hepatitis with Central Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara being on top of the list.

The research in 2007 also showed that in the villages, hepatitis has been causing death more seriously on those being in the ages of between 15 and 44 years old.

The Indonesian government has taken several anticipations by setting up immunization projects of hepatitis B in Lombok Island (1986-1990) as well as integrating the immunization process into gradual immunization program between 1991 and 1996.
