"TVs dominate advertising expenditure by 60 percent"

VIVAnews - Along the first half of 2010, total ad expenditure rose 29 percent to Rp 28.5 trillion, which is listed as the highest within the last three years.

"TVs dominate advertising expenditure by 60 percent," said Nielsen Audience Measurement Managing Director, Irawati Pratignyo, in Jakarta today, July 29.

The rise in advertising expenditure was due to the World Cup held in South Africa. Data of Nielsen Media Research showed that TVs gained most of the advertising expenditures at Rp 17 trillion.

"In addition, telecommunication companies were recorded the higher spenders compared to last year," he said. Telecommunication companies pay up advertising at Rp 2.6 trillion during the first half of the year, 50 percent increase compared to the same period of 2009.

In addition, PT Telkomsel and PT XL Axiata spent more at a total of each Rp 260 billion and Rp 250 billion respectively.

Moreover, Nielsen noted that political parties and the government are included as top spenders at Rp 1.3 trillion, 36 percent decrease compared to the same period of last year.

During the FIFA World Cup, advertising expenditure in TVs earned 13 percent at Rp 3.9 trillion with 370 ad spots.
