VIVAnews - Trade Minister Mari Elka Pangestu predicted that the national sugar production until the end of 2010 will only hit 2.5 million tonnes, lower than the targeted 2.7 million tonnes.
"The national sugar production is 200 thousand tonnes lower due to a decrease in its concentrate," Pangestu said last night, August 19.
Despite the fall in national sugar production, Pangestu guaranteed that the national sugar stock will last until the end of the year.
"We commonly import sugar because sugarcane farmers usually delay production in the first five months," she said.
However, Pangestu has yet to be informed of the amount of white crystal sugar that the government will import.
