VIVAnews - Police admitted that warning shots were launched as a form of defense when a crowd broke into the office of Buol Police Dept, Central Sulawesi, last night. However, police said errant bullets were at the proximity.
According to Chief of Central Sulawesi Police Dept, Brigadier General Amin Saleh, "five were dead while two others are on critical," he said today, September 1.
The riot injured 28 civilians and 17 police officers.
Amin said the riot started following an accident which took the live of a person. The man involved in the crash was found dead after he was taken to the police office. "The forensic report stated that the man committed suicide," said Amin.
Nonetheless, people believed that the man's death was a result of police's mistreatment. On 9.30 pm last night, 500 civilians headed to Buol Police Department and went amok. "Then the police defended by launching warning shots, which cause errant bullets to hit the crowd," said Amin.
