VIVAnews - Governor of Bank Indonesia, Darmin Nasution, will settle the Indonesian banking architecture (API) including the management of foreign banks.

According to Darmin, API's revision also touches Rural Credit Bank, Bank Syariah, and all banking elements, including the role of foreign investors in Indonesian banking.

He said Bank Indonesia's assumption that banks should have majority owner has eased foreign investors to become majority owners. In fact, other countries do not allow majority owners.

According to him, BI considers that should there be majority owners, someone can be held responsible if the said bank is shut down.

"We'll examine about the regulation. Right now, it is possible that we are the only country applying majority ownership," he said today, September 1.

According to him, the discussion over the regulation is more realistic than directly restricting foreign investors.

"If there is maximum limit, foreign investors cannot be majority owners," he said.

For example. the United States restrict majority ownership at 10 percent while Australia is at 15 percent.

Darmin said the regulation does not apply retroactively.
