VIVAnews - The riot involving civilians and police officers in Biau, Buol Regency, Central Sulawesi, allegedly broke following the death of a prisoner named Kasmir Y Timumun. Police stated that Kasmir committed suicide while serving his time in jail.
However, Chief of Indonesian Police General Bambang Hendarso Danuri emphasized police's intention to investigate and assure whether or not Kasmir had himself hung. "Did he really commit suicide or what? A transparent and open explanation will help [solve the case]" he said today.
Chief of Indonesian Police instructed Deputy Chief of Indonesian Police, Commissioner General Yusuf Manggabarani, to helm the investigation team.
Meanwhile, spokesperson of the Indonesian Police, I Ketut Untung Yoga, said the police have looked into eleven of its members that are likely to find out about Kasmir's death, which brought about the riot.
Seven civilians died during the Buol incident while 20 others were injured. The National Commission for Human Rights are investigating whether or not Human Rights violations were committed in the incident.
