Flood Hits Hundreds of Hectares of Rice Field

Farmers may have to face harvest failure.

VIVAnews - Hundreds of hectares of paddy fields in Batang Regency, Central Java, may fail harvest due to two days of heavy rain.

The flooded rice fields are situated in Kalipucang, Karanganyar, Karangasem, Sambong, Denasri, Klidang and Kasepuhan Village, Batang Regency.

The flood, ranging from 50 to 70 centimeters in height, also hit rice fields in Lebo, Sawahjoho, Kalibeluk, Sijono, Banjiran, Cepagan and Pandansari Village, Warungasem Regency.

In addition to affecting hundreds of hectares of paddy fields, the flood caused damage to a bridge in Java's north coast road connecting Batang Regency and Pekalongan.

Most parts of the bridge have collapsed while sections of it have sunk by 15 to 20 centimeters, endangering motorists.

Head of Agriculture Agency of Batang Regency, Sakuwi, said that the heavy rain that have plummeted Batang Regency for the past two days may cause harvest failure.
