VIVAnews - The Jakarta administration decided not to approve a special path for bicycles. "For the time being, the available sidewalks will not be aimed for bicycles. It will be prioritized for pedestrians," said Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Agency, Ery Basworo, on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

The one-meter wide special path for bicycles was initially planned to take the left side of intended sidewalks. The route connects city facilities such as parks, fountains and green lane.

The first route to be tested will go through Blok M (Christina Martatiahahu) - Old mayor's office of South Jakarta (Jalan Trunojoyo) - Jalan Pattimura - Senayan Fountain - Jalan General Sudirman - Semanggi - Jalan MH Thamrin - Monas.

Despite the canceled plan, Basworo promised that the Jakarta administration will continue to develop a special path for bicycles. It is still preparing the perfect formula to materialize the plan without disturbing pedestrians.

Through the Urban Park Connector pilot project, the special path for bicycles was intended as a safe and comfortable course for non-engine vehicles. The project will also be a low-cost solution to reduce traffic jam and air pollution applying simple technology and affect the wider public.
