VIVAnews - "What meaning can architecture and design have in a world where globalization, standardization and commercialization are the paramount conditions? One answer to this is to reinstate craftsmanship, tradition and context."

'Tangible Traces – Dutch Architecture and Design in the making' is the entry submitted by the Netherlands Architecture Institute for the Seventh Sao Paulo Biennale of Architecture in 2007. On display are designs by architecture studio Onix, spatial designer Frank Havermans, textile designer Claudy Jongstra, fashion designer Alexander van Slobbe and industrial designer Hella Jongerius.

Illustrator Yke Schotten, photography duo Anuschka Blommers and Niels Schumm, architecture critic Roemer van Toorn, graphic designer Joost Grootens and design critic Louise Schouwenberg have been invited to place the work of the five exhibiting designers into a joint documentary context. Unifying context further comes from the exhibition design, which is the work of industrial designer Jurgen Bey together with graphic design by Hansje van Halem. The result is that “Tangible Traces” is a rich, multilayered presentation which, paralleling the process of making the objects, merits time and attention on the part of visitors to the exhibition.
