VIVAnews – The borders of North Sumatra and Riau have currently seen a clash which was triggered by land dispute. Five residents were shot by members of Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob). Three officers were also wounded in the incident.
“Not only had several residents been the victims of the clash, but our members were as well,” said North Sumatra Police Chief, Ins. Gen. Wisnu Amat Sastro, on Thursday, Feb 2.
Wisnu said that five residents were shot by Brimob members. Meanwhile, a security guard from PT Mayzumah Agro Indonesia was also injured.
“From the information that we received, he is in critical condition,” he said.
Wisnu said the clash took place as PT Mayzumah started to cultivate the land of almost 6 thousand hectares using heavy machinery. The residents of Batang Kumuh village in Tambusai, Rokan Halu, Riau, believed it was them who owned the land.
“The residents came and called for the workers to stop, which was eventually declined,” he said.
Being opposed against, the locals started to attack the workers.
“Then the clash happened,” he said. At that time, there were five Brimob members who were on duty and they tried to stop the clash.
The clash has resulted in victims from all parties involved, namely the locals, the company and Brimob.
Earlier, Desa Kumuh’s attorney, M Nasir Sihotang, informed VIVAnews of the wounded residents. They are: Osmar Sihombing (30), Franky Dolok Pasaribu (30), Nomos Sihombing (34), Johanes Sitorus (35), Ranto Sirait (27) and Joni Sihotang (58).
“They are still being treated at a hospital in Rohul,” said Nasir, Thursday, Feb 2nd.
As reported, the bullets are lodged inside the victims’ bodies, namely in the legs, thighs and also buttocks.
The incident occurred at 11 AM. At that time, the North Sumatran company, PT Mazumah Agro Indonesia, deployed heavy machinery towards the residents’ land in Riau. Because the Pasirpengaraian Court had helped win the residents, they rejected the heavy machinery to enter their land,” Nasir explained.
