VIVAnews – Aceh Police Chief, Ins. Gen. Iskandar Hasan, said that the shooting of the house of a campaign team member of Aceh Governatorial candidate, Asnawi Abdul Rahman, was not linked with the local elections. He said that the incident was triggered by personal matters.
“It was a warning given to the victim because he was asked to pay his debts many times,” said Iskandar Hasan today, Feb 8.
According to Iskandar, Police are still working on finding the perpetrators. He said the act was pure crime and was not related to the local elections. “Our investigation led to personal matters, so it’s not related to the local elections,” he said.
Iskandar said that Aceh is still deemed a safe place.
“We call on people to work together in maintaining the situation,” he said.
Earlier, gunshots brought Aceh to another level of terror on Sunday, Feb 5 when Asnawi’s house in East Aceh was targeted shootings at around 8.30 PM. There were no casualties in the incident.
Four suspects, having their faces covered, approached the house by riding two motorcycles. They stood outside the fence and began shooting at the house.
“According to the witnesses, the suspects stood in front of the fence and immediately shot at the house. Four gunshots went through the house’s door,” said Aceh Police spokesman, Gustav Leo, on Monday.
Asnawi is the former secretary of Aceh Kota Pereulak Party. The construction businessman is now a member of the success team of Irwandi Yusuf-Muhyan Yunan, candidates of Aceh governor and deputy governor.
