VIVAnews- The Indonesian government is hoping that the United States fully supports such international financial institutions as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Being the main stake holder, the United States has a significant role in boosting the fund reserves of the institutions, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani stressed on Wednesday, Feb. 18.

Mulyani stated that the Indonesian government has prepared two main programs on the economy during the meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The first program is concerned with the global economic crisis. "We are certainly hoping that the United States will soon recover so that it will not affect the overall stability of the world's economy," she said.

Second, there are several government reform programs which had previously been discussed with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). One of the programs was related to additional general capital increase.

"We need support from the United States because the nation is a major stake holder. It can be decisive and, as far as exchange is concerned, the institutions's role must be redefined within the global context," she said.

Chairing the G-20's Working Group Four, Mulyani will work with France to reform world's development banks like the World Bank, ADB, Inter American Development Bank and African Development Bank.

With regard to Indonesia-US relationship, the government expects that the United States will enable Asia to be included in the solutions prepared for handling the global economic crisis. "In order to maintain excellent economic growth, every component which set outs confidence over the balance of payment and State Budget must be monitored. If the United States is going into a prolonged crisis, it will be a pressure on the State Budget's balance of payment," she said.
