VIVAnews – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani will try to promote for new financing to help emerging countries overcome the effects of the global crisis during the G20 Finance Ministerial Conference that will take place between 13 and 16 March 2009.
According to Mulyani, Indonesia will bring forth the interest of ASEAN and other emerging countries before the forum, which will take up three major issues.
First, the G20 Finance Ministerial Conference will discuss detailed technical issues on how to win out the global crisis that is currently affecting the US and Europe. Its purpose is to prevent the crisis from affecting other countries.
Second, they will also discuss a new consensus policy and coordination that will allow all countries to contribute to finding the right solution. “This is our main concern,” she said.
Third, they will try to find a new special fund for emerging and other crisis-affected countries, to help them elaborate their fiscal policy. Since funding has become a constraint to these countries, a new financing source must be sought.
“I expect to see a new funding source consensus, especially for developing countries,” she said. This new source, according to her, may derive from bilateral or development banks.
