VIVAnews - The coroner court over the death case of Nanyang Technological University (NTU) student from Indonesia, David Hartanto Widjaja, has been held as of yesterday, Wednesday, June 17 at the Singapore Court.

David's brother, William Widjaja, said his family requested the hearing to be delayed because of business reasons.

"I also decided not to come so that the judges would delay the hearing. But apparently it was useless", Widjaja told VIVAnews on Thursday, June 18.

He also said he was supposed to attend the hearing today as one of the witnesses. "It seems like everybody wants to close the case as soon as possible and conclude it as a suicide", Widjaja said.

The trial, he added, had been likely arranged.

"I wonder why isn't there any reason to delay the trials in Singapore although the lawyers are not present", Widjaja said.

Earlier, Profesor Chan Kap Luk, David's thesis supervisor, who was allegedly stabbed by David, testified at the hearing. Luk said that David attacked him at his office with a knife on 2 March 2009.

As reported by The Straits Times, another NTU student, Lin Zhenxing, showed an eight-second long video at the coroner court in Singapore on Monday, May 25, 2009. The video, which was shaky and blurred, featured someone who looks like David sitting on a bridge's roof.

The person's right arm and feet were covered in blood and so were his pants and the front of his shirt. The person looked down and jumped off.

"The video only showed someone who was sitting on the bridge and the duration is only 8 seconds", Widjaja said, expressing his doubt.

There are three verdicts that could be decided after the coroner court. It could be concluded as a suicide, an accident, or an open verdict. "We hope it will be an open verdict so the police could investigate David's death until it is solved", Widjaja said.

The coroner court will resume on Friday, June 19, 2009 and continue on June 24 and 25.
