VIVAnews - Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Boediono are predicted to win the coming presidential elections. Market players are optimistic that the elections will be better than it was in 2004.

"The coming elections will be beneficial for Indonesia", Center for Information and Development Studies' (CIDES) economist Umar Juoro said during a presentation entitled "Analysing the economic, political, and cultural visions of the 2009 Indonesian Presidential Candidates" in Jakarta, Thursday, June 18.

According to him, the situation in Indonesia is different from other countries like Thailand which is not only facing a global crisis, but also political turmoil.

Juoro also said that although the market prefers SBY and Boediono, other candidates such as Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto and Megawati-Prabowo still have a chance. He assumed that the economic vision of JK-Wiranto is not much different with SBY and Boediono's.

"JK emphasizes more on the significant role of the state", he said. Meanwhile, Megawati and Prabowo focus on debt restructuring and foreign role restriction.

"That is why a lot of foreign investors are concerned about the program", Juoro said.

He also assumed that if SBY is elected, the cabinet will feature a professional leadership.

The problem lies upon the relationship with the House of Representatives (DPR).

"If SBY approaches one of the parties, they will support the cabinet. If he doesn't, the government will be having difficulties in getting support for the economic policy programs," he said.
